Capitalism Made Me Do It is a space where I will share my thoughts that don't necessarily belong on my work website.
It could be considered a more radical space because I am talking about non-work related topics. This is my way of saying... these kinds of thoughts might put off potential clients! (I think this is also to say, I am a dichotomy).
I do think it is possible for someone to be good at their job (for me I do SEO and things that help businesses with reach & visibility) - and to still hold some quite conflicting, in my case anti-capitalist thoughts. For me this is quite healthy; to be sceptical of the system in which we are all currently tied to. Of course, this does lead to a lot of internal conflict too...
I used to post a lot on Big Tech platforms like LinkedIn where I had built up a nice audience of nearly 13k followers... I deleted my profile there recently, mainly for ethical reasons. But I had no established audience or way to keep in touch with any of my followers. I hate the idea of having followers, influence, or a platform of any kind... but at the same time... it is quite handy because:
a) I might need to lean on my network to find work (thanks capitalism!) and
b) it's nice to know that someone is out there who might listen/read my thoughts.
I have begun using decentralised more ethical Fediverse platforms like Mastodon, and I will continue to spend time there, but I will try to find time to share some thoughts here. I will try to drive people to this page, as they might say in the trade.
Finally, I will be using Keila, an ethical, privacy-first newsletter platform, to enable people to subscribe for email updates. I won't abuse this list, instead I will just try and send out my posts when I have them, saving them having to visit here. I like email because it also allows people to read directly in their browser/email, to hit reply and share some thoughts directly... if they want to, of course :)
